The Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens New World Conservation Training Scholarship promotes capacity building in zoos, aquariums, and conservation organizations of the Western Hemisphere. The scholarship provides full funding to qualified zoo, aquarium, and conservation professionals interested in participating in any one of the Association of Zoos and Aquarium's (AZA) professional training program courses.  Preference is given to candidates who are currently involved in cooperative efforts with AZA member institutions or participating in Taxon Advisory Groups (TAGs) or Species Survival Plans (SSPs).  Additional preference is given to early career professionals working at zoological facilities in lesser-developed countries in Latin America and the Caribbean Basin.  

 

The Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens provides funding for this annual scholarship award.

REQUIREMENTS

 

  1. Applicants must be employees or associates of developing country zoological institutions or related facilities.  For this scholarship, preference is given to candidates who are currently involved in cooperative wildlife conservation efforts with AZA member institutions or partners.  

  2. Applicants must possess a functional proficiency in English.

  3. Individuals may submit only one scholarship application per year.
